クリスマスが近くて慌ただしい

標題の通りの仕儀で、先週は火木のイヴェンと、その後の飲み会、ゼミの卒論の添削で終わってしまう。まずは火曜のBleulerはこの機会を逃すと読めないので良かった。とくにWilliam JamesをやっているEmmaが活発に発言をしてくれて勉強になった。その日の次のイヴェントのpublic letureは：

"The Embryo Individual: Early twentieth-century psychodynamic perspectives on the origins of selfhood"

Abstract
This talk takes off from problems investigated in The Foundation of the Unconscious: Schelling, Freud and the Birth of the Modern Psyche (Cambridge University Press, 2011). Here it was argued that the notion of an 'unconscious psyche', which took shape in the Romantic period in Germany, emerged out of pre-existing debates over how 'individuality', and individual autonomy, could be represented in a climate dominated by discourses of mechanical and rational connection. The paper will begin by rehearsing some of these representational problems in relation to the history of psychology and psychoanalysis, before examining a particular juncture (from 1911-1922) when the experience of the foetus and the >birth' of individuality was variously theorised in works by C. G. Jung, Sandor Ferenczi, Sigmund Freud and Emil Lorenz, culminating in Otto Rank's The Birth Trauma. By coming to this material via a longer-range enquiry into the history of psychology, and philosophical and moral conceptions of the individual, new perspectives will be opened up on the theorisation of infantile life in this period. In particular the paper concentrates on tensions between the possibility of a psychodynamic developmental psychology, and the function of the foetus as a metaphor within a quite different moral-philosophical enterprise.

ということでかなり広い歴史的文脈を踏まえてプレゼン。この方の著書はこちらで読まないといけないなあ。もともとQueen Mary Londonで文学研究から出発したということでワインを飲みながら話が合う。打てば響くような感じ。

木曜日は次の本の特定の箇所を題材にJuliet MitchellのPhDの院生がプレゼン：

Revolution in Mind: The Creation of Psychoanalysis

この本まだ通読はしていないが、指定個所である'The Unhappy Marriage of Psychic and Eros'はいかにフロイトの精神分析が同時代のBiophysics, Psychophysics, French Psychopathology, Sexologyなどから引用しまくりながら、そこから過激に逸脱していくさま、そのようにしてFreudian Psychoanalysisが誕生した次第を実証的かつ劇的に記述をして秀逸。文章も簡潔で喚起力がある名調子である。以前に小生が『英語青年』でショショナ・フェルマンを引用しながら当てずっぽうで書いたエッセイを実証的に論証してくれている。まあ、フーコーも同じようなことを書いているのだが。この日はゼミの最終日ということでJuliet Mitchellご自身がpaperを読む。精神分析はverticalな親子関係を問題にしてきたが、horizontalなsiblingの間の関係を等閑視してきたという彼女独自の視点からの戦争論。もちろんエディプス的な三角形におけるライバル関係が前提になるが。一種断章風のプレゼンだったのでうまくまとめられないが、さまざまな示唆が細部にある。精神分析は現在の暴力論としてまだ枯渇していないことだけは確かだ。ペンがないというミッチェル先生に小生のBLのボールペンをお貸ししたが、帰って来なかった...（笑）。

その後は一種の日本風に言うと忘年会。先生は欠席。なんと会場は小生のフラットの正面のMarchmont Streetの角にあるイタリアン。わいわいがやがやの中で隣に座ったSophieさんと久しぶりにお話。分析を受けている彼女からいろいろと具体的な話が聞けて面白かった。小生がtransferenceってどんな感じ？と聞いたら、It takes place straight awayとのこと。なるほど。聞くと彼女はHighgateにお住まいで、DeeはChalkfarmだそうだ。さすがにみなさんpsychoanalytic areaにお住まいである。２次会はSonuさんの先導でHotel Russellのバーで（社長＠西荻の御用達でもある）。そこで０時半くらいまで。その席でボスのSonuさんからBrazilでpaperを３月に読まないかというお誘いがあったが、研究費関係を使い切ったのでそれは無理であるだろう。

金土はフラットにて卒論の添削。ほぼ全員終わったのではないか。在外で不義理をしたが彼らにある程度は義務を果たすことができたかもしれない。
